چکیده

The early age volume changes occurring during the geopolymerisation reaction are not sufficiently understood yet, due to shortage of experimental data and theoretical models. This work presents new results on chemical autogenous deformation sodium-activated geopolymers from metakaolin, focussing first 72 h reaction. show that undergo early-age expansion, shrinkage. A model is proposed explain result, leveraging recent advances molecular simulations. predicts how extent expansion controlled by confined water in structure geopolymer. However, despite this underlying geopolymer samples shrinkage at macroscale, which excludes self-desiccation as origin deformation. better insight gained monitoring kinetics using isothermal differential calorimetry. Two kinetic regimes identified, with apparent activation energies approximately 90 kJ/mol 70 kJ/mol. suggests two microscopic mechanisms concur determine pastes.

Thermal Behaviour of Metakaolin/Fly Ash Geopolymers with Chamotte Aggregate

Geopolymers are generally appreciated for their good resistance against high temperatures. This paper compares the influence of thermal treatment with temperatures ranging from 200 to 1200 °C on the mechanical properties and microstructure of geopolymers based on two different aluminosilicate precursors, metakaolin and fly ash. Moreover, the paper is also aimed at characterizing the effect of c...

Monoamine transporters: insights from molecular dynamics simulations

The human monoamine transporters (MATs) facilitate the reuptake of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine from the synaptic cleft. Imbalance in monoaminergic neurotransmission is linked to various diseases including major depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, schizophrenia, and Parkinson's disease. Inhibition of the MATs is thus an important strategy for t...

Insights into channel dysfunction from modelling and molecular dynamics simulations

Developments in structural biology mean that the number of different ion channel structures has increased significantly in recent years. Structures of ion channels enable us to rationalize how mutations may lead to channelopathies. However, determining the structures of ion channels is still not trivial, especially as they necessarily exist in many distinct functional states. Therefore, the use...

Temperature Effect on Mechanical Properties of Top Neck Mollusk Shells Nano-Composite by Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Nano-Indentation Experiments

Discovering the mechanical properties of biological composite structures at the Nano-scale is much interesting today. Top Neck mollusk shells are amongst biomaterials Nano-Composite that their layered structures are composed of organic and inorganic materials. Since the Nano indentation process is known as an efficient method to determine mechanical properties like elastic modulus and hardness ...

Molecular Studies of Aggrecan : Experiments and Simulations

Located in the extracellular matrix (ECM) of the cartilaginous tissues such as human intervertebral disc, the large self-assembling proteoglycans, aggrecan, are essential for the disc in resisting multiaxial compressive loads. Aggrecan degradation, a combinational result of abnormal and/or reduced cellular synthesis and proteolytic cleavage, leads to a reduction in the disc functionality. The k...
